My boyfriend and I bought our house, and an SUV for two reasons. First, we wanted to invest in property, and second, our precious pup needed a yard. Have you ever tried to keep a 70lb pit-bull in an apartment? Imagine caging a Tasmanian devil..that’s what we were dealing with. Now he as an acre of fenced in green space! And the SUV..well that was for Wilbur (the pup) too. See..we are those crazy dog parents who take our dog everywhere. Farmers market, parks, festivals..and of course, all of our vacations (that don’t require flying). Wilbur is part of the family, and essentially our child, so when we started traveling with him, it was quickly made clear to me that put putting him in the back of the car and just winging it wasn’t going to cut it. I’ve grown up with dogs, all big, all energetic, and all of them traveled with my family. There is nothing like having your four-legged best friend join you on your adventures! If you’ve read this far, I’m guessing you too need help on figuring out how to travel with your dog. So whether your pooch is a teeny tiny, or you have a bear of dog like me, with just a few tricks, and some key products, traveling with your dog can be stress-free and simplified for both of you. Safety The most important thing when traveling with your dog is safety of course! I put Wilbur in a crate that […]
Luxury on a dime: Dominican Republic vacation
It was the middle of winter when Brian and I decided to go to an Island. We joke that we booked this trip in the middle of night with a credit card, and didn’t even realize what we were doing – and that’s not entirely far from the truth! I had been to the Dominican Republic before with my mom, but it was Brian and I’s first trip abroad together, and we wanted it to be perfect. So after what seemed like countless hours of research, I finally found a resort along the southern coast of the island that blew me away. More on that in a bit! We booked our entire trip without a travel agent – we went through Expedia. I am not convinced that this is the answer for every trip, because you’re pretty much on your own, but for this one it worked. Our resort stay and airfare was bundled into one price and deeply discounted because of this. We both ended up paying less than $1,000 each for an entire week at an all-inclusive resort, including airfare and taxes. My tip for finding the best prices is to be flexible with dates, go during the off-season, and book as far in advance as you can. We arrived in the middle of the week, and flew into the capital city, Santo Domingo. Getting to the country was easy enough, but navigating to our hotel was a little crazy. We got picked up in a pre-arranged taxi […]
My 72 hours in Charleston, SC
I’ll start by prefacing – I was not born and raised in the South, but it sure is where my heart has always been! I love the South, so much so that my boyfriend and I decided to drive 12 hours from Pennsylvania last summer to Charleston, SC to spend 72 hours there. We were in love with the idea of a historic charming coastal town (first time there!), and decided if we loved it, then that’s where we would move. Simple as pie. We do stuff on a whim people. Driving into Charleston was unimpressive – however after what seemed like a 100 mile stretch of horribly maintained highway, you suddenly are transported into this old brick-street line city. *My advice is to drive if possible – because you’ll want a car to get around, or fly in and rent. Either way you can’t walk from Island to Island..* We decided to stay at an Air BNB off King Street – the main drag. It was definitely the right choice because it was walking distance to almost everything we needed. We also snagged a killer deal ($80 a night!) by booking last minute. We were in a second story studio apartment, but trust me, the city is so beautiful, you will barely be in your quarters at all! We arrived Friday night and had reservations at a quaint french restaurant that I found online. We always starts things off easy the first night – but oh my gosh I didn’t realize we’d be […]
