How to work remotely from an RV

“Wait, you work remotely…from your RV? How!?” That is a question that I’ve gotten so much since starting my full-time RV life that I decided I would finally write a blog post on it and answer everyone’s burning questions! I’ll be writing this in Question & Answer style, and try to hit all the questions i’ve been asked! If you have additional questions, please comment or email me directly and I’ll update the blog with more info! What do you do for work/how do you work remotely? I am not retired, or independently wealthy. I am just a digital nomad millennial (along with my husband who also works from the road). I am very lucky in the fact that i’ve actually worked full-time remotely for the last 5 years for a virtual design company. I am a creative marketer and interior designer, so for me it wasn’t about going remote, but going part-time. I worked 40+ hours a week prior to RVing, but once I started mapping out travels and realizing I could not work full time and actually experience the amazing places I was visiting, I worked out a schedule with my company. I now work part time from the road (15/20 hours weekly) and have a very flexible schedule. I can’t even express my gratitude that this is possible, but it works wonderfully for me. Not a lot changed in the way I work – I have my laptop and a good pair of headphones and that’s about […]

RV-ing with Hipcamp: A review of my favorite campground alternative

Even if you’re not in the world of RV-ing, chances are at some point in the last year you’ve heard about the insane spike in people taking trips in RV’s. Well – not only taking trips in RV’s but also going full time! According to the Washington Post, in 2021, just over 1 MILLION people are full time RV-ers. That doesn’t include the weekend warriors, the occasion RV campers, or even those who are planning on renting an RV and road tripping it this year. That number blows me away every time I read it. So what’s all that mean? It’s hard to find an RV to buy, they are selling like hotcakes. It’s even more difficult to find a spot to camp! My husband and I started to plan our transition from 9-5 in a sticks and bricks over 2 years ago. COVID threw a wrench in our plans and we had to delay everything about 12 months, but in 2021 we got on the road full-time. In all honesty, it felt frustrating that after 2+ years of planning, sooo many people decided to start this lifestyle too. Of course that’s just me being annoyed because it’s trending and I don’t like to be trendy. I digress though – because I found a pretty good solution to the issue of booked up campgrounds. Campgrounds, state + national parks are booked way out…so now what? In my 2021 Class C (Forest River Sunseeker), I’m fully equipped to boondock for at […]

Money Saving RV Tips

There is a misconception out there that living in an RV automatically means you live a very inexpensive lifestyle and while that is entirely possible, it’s not actually the norm for full-timers. Not all of these are just for the RV lifestyle either, a lot of these ‘tips’ are something I’ve carried through with me from my home-dwelling days. Read on to discover some money saving RV tips, and comment with your favorite tip (or if you have another one for me!) You can also read about my debt-free journey and debt-free living tips here! Camping Savings Camping is a huge expense! After our RV payment, it’s our biggest monthly expense. I use a lot of tips and tricks to get cheaper campgrounds, and we dry camp when we can, however I’m a fan of having hookups. Here are just a few tricks I’ve found, some you may have heard about, some may be new! HipCamp On my gosh do I love HipCamp. It’s like AirBNB but for camping, and it’s magic. People with space for campers list their spaces, some are rustic and beautiful and some are full mini campgrounds! When planning my travel route, I almost always look to see if there are HipCamps available before looking for a typical campground or […]

Downsizing from a house to RV: How we did this without stress

Timeline The plan to go from our sticks-and-bricks to full time RVing is one that has been in the works for about 2 years now. It wasn’t until about a year before we had a “set sail” date as I like to call it that I started a solid plan for purging my household possessions. I have always been good at purging. I’ve never had any problem filling up trash bags full of clothes and good for thrift stores…but holy cow. Purging your entire house is a whole other beast. When I started getting serious about eliminating our possessions, I couldn’t find a really good resource for it. I knew I needed to get rid of most of my stuff for full time RVing, but how? when should I start? what should I keep? These were all questions I needed answers to and couldn’t find them. I did find the answer through my own experiences and so I’m sharing them with you today! How to purge successfully: I am a huge fan of Marie Kondo – if you haven’t read the book, I highly suggest you do it before you even start the process of purging. (You can buy it here!) I also love wardrobe capsules and replacing all my junk items with quality and sustainable items. That being said, I still felt like I needed guidance in my purging conquest. After a year, I finally feel like I have a solid guide. Before you start, remind yourself of the […]
