Bedroom Canopy Update

This last weekend, Brian and I were rained in because of the hurricane, so we decided to move furniture around in our master bedroom. (what else would a designer do when she is forced to stay in? haha!) More is less? I moved my IKEA wardrobes into my bedroom for added clothing storage, and moved the dresser to the other wall. I also added my favorite rug – which used to be in my kitchen, then in my entry way, and now has a home in my bedroom. My master bedroom is not large by any means – it’s a 12×14 box, but it seems the more I added, not only the cozier did it feel, but it actually felt bigger. I like the feeling over being in a cave – maybe that sounds odd? Let me explain. I used to live for pillow and sheet forts when I was a little kid, and I love to sleep  with my body 99% under the covers, and I love the feeling of being encompassed by a space. Which is why I took a risk and ordered a $15 canopy off the internet. What I started with.. This is the only picture I have of the master bedroom from the day we moved in. It’s been set up 3 different ways now, and we’ve switched out the horrible light fixture for something new – but we haven’t pained or redone anything else. This room was actually in good shape, with a decent […]

Why I’m completely changing my office

It has been quite a week here! Honestly, it’s been a bit surreal. As you know, Brian and I just celebrated a year in North Carolina this month, so we are not up to date on this hurricane thing. We are more snow storm and tornado type people ha! So with this impending hurricane coming our way, things have stalled a bit in the home improvement area of our lives. Last weekend, we finished building the base of my desk – I shared the progress on my Instagram stories, but if you missed it, I crafted a 7′ desk out of Wooden Crates (From Michaels) and reclaimed wood from Habitat Restore. I spent a total of $60 on this desk, and with the extra scrap wood we sawed off, I have shelves to hang. Like I said, we are stalled until next week (fingers crossed!) on getting this finished.   Change is a comin’! I always strived to make my office my happy place, because i’m holed up in there 40+ hours a week, so I wanted it to be a space that I LOVE. In my previous apartment, my office doubled as the storage/guest room. However, I had spent years collecting items for my office to make it happy and cheery, which in the past meant a lot of pink, gold and white. My office was all pink, gold and white. I actually had this theme going since I was in college (my interior design studio in university was […]

Fall Decorating Ideas on a budget!

I’m so excited to write about all my fall decorating ideas on a budget, yet it feels funny writing this post while I sit in my living room in a tank top and shorts – but that’s September in the South I suppose! Leave it to a relocating Yankee to state something obvious like that. On the other hand, in the design world, it feels like i’m writing this article late – because like fashion, design is always a season ahead! In my home, I have only just begun my fall decorating – primarily in the kitchen and entryway, but ooohh boy do I have a lot more to do. This is my first house, so watch out world, walking into my house will be like walking into a Pumpkin Spice latte…you get the picture. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite fall decorating ideas on a budget! Some of these ideas are my own, and some are inspired by other amazing individuals. Happy decorating friends! Fall Decor Dollar Store Pumpkins You can do countless things with dollar store pumpkins, but here are a few of my favorite ideas!  Spray Paint them and put a glass candle votive inside (like seen above) both can be purchased at the Dollar Tree! Spray Paint them jade, gold, silver, white and create a centerpiece with them by alternating sizes and colors down the center of the table (add a few acorns and candles too for fun!) Using Mod Podge, cover them in ribbon (like […]

Fall Bucket List + free printable!

It’s no surprise that we LOVE fall in my house! Between apple cider drinking, decorating for fall, and going to corn mazes, I love every activity. It’s only our second autumn in the South, so we are are still trying to adjust to being hot in October! It’s a crazy thing when you grew up in the North, and had to bundle up come the first day of October!   One thing that hasn’t changed is my list of things I have to do each fall. I love with these months of crunchy leafs, bonfires, big scarves, and plaid decor. I truly am my best self in this season; I think it’s the big socks and crisp air that just revive my soul 😉 I sat down and made a bucket list of things I want to do this fall (I can’t believe I can already mark a few off!) Here is my Fall Bucket List I know everyone has their OWN ideas of what they want to do each fall, so you can either print mine to use for yourself, or I created a fill in the blank one for you. Eclectic Dining Room Makeover

My eclectic dining room makeover is finally finished, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! The dining room was not high priority on my to-do list when we first moved into our house, but I’ll admit, I couldn’t stand it anymore. Day after day, I walked by a sad and empty beige room and I knew I had to work some design magic in there! I’ve redone several spaces so far; my kitchen is bold and cheerful, the bathroom is moody and dark, and the basement is neutral and bright. However, I wanted to create a space that felt intimate, and cozy, while being bold and eclectic. I have been loving green for a while now, and once I found the perfect paint color for the space, it was easy as pie to pull together the rest, As you all know, my makeovers are all budget makeovers, meaning I try to make the most impact with the smallest budget. I have many items I still want to add to this dining room; top of my list is replacing the carpet with wood flooring, changing the doorknob to a vintage crystal knob, and find a sunburst mirror for the back wall. However you also know, i’m impatient, and have been getting many questions about my dining room, so I wanted to share the final(ish) makeover! Before I dive into my kitchen makeover, let me first show you what it was up until about 2 weeks ago! 50 shades of beige; featuring […]
