34 Things To Do With Extra Time

Due to the elephant in the room…I’m looking at you COVID-19, a lot of us have extra time on our hands. I don’t want to brush this whole situation under the rug, because it’s horrific and I’m anxiety-ridden most hours of the day..but I’m also a “cry for 3 days and then look at the glass half full” type of gal. I got my freakout out of the way and now I’m ready to combat the stir craziness with productivity and even try to have fun. If you’re a homebody like me, maybe you already do these activities on a regular basis..but I know we are all looking to A) do something that keeps our minds off things B) stay healthy and active and C) support our communities in this crazy time. I tried to formulate this list to hit all of those! Here are my suggestions, along with many suggestions from my lovely Instagram community! Thank you! Home: You’re stuck at home, so maybe it’s time to tackle those annoying but important home projects! Clean out your cabinets. I’m talking kitchen cabinets, bathrooms, mudrooms. Take this opportunity to sort through it all, clean the cabinets inside and out and reorganize. I did this and found a coveted bottle of hand sanitizer in the back of my bathroom cabinet. #blessed. Spring clean! It may not be Spring yet, but why not get a jump start? Clean your house and sanitize while you’re at it. Throw out old stuff, and donate […]

Simple Hack To Find Your Style

Full Disclosure: I am weary to ever write about finding your style, style quizzes, or giving advice on home design styles. I am an interior designer and editorial stylist by day, but I have struggled deeply with how I want my own home to appear. One factor is my budget and the layout of my home, which greatly detracts from the look I really want. If I had unlimited funds, I would have a very light and bohemian beach inspired home. That is what I discovered when I was deep in thought this past weekend anyhow. I could go on a whole speel about how life is too short to not eat the damn cake, but you get that. I am here to say, if you want to do something in your home, you have a specific style you love, even if it’s opposite of everything you own…go for it. Let me break it down a bit more. Deciding Your Style..when you’re totally not sure. I infamously go between wanting a dark and moody, hygge inspired Scandi-clad space. You feel me? I like the idea of being wrapped in twinkle lights and big chunky knit blankets and dark painted walls..and then the sun comes out and I’m over here pinning beach home pictures. I’ve gone between painting my walls black and then white and then back so many times in my house I think my fiance is going to take my paintbrush privileges away (I kid.) I was driving him […]

Social Media Planning For Beginners

I created my Instagram account and blog almost 2 years, and I can honestly tell you that in those 2 years, I did not once plan out my social media content. I can also honestly tell you I was constantly stressed, constantly going off-brand and off-topic, and worried about what I was going to blog or post about next. This year I decided to try a new approach that intimidated me a lot: social media content planning. That may seem silly, to be afraid of something that is simply just planning! My day job involves planning out projects from start to finish for almost a year ahead, but when it came to my own creative game I had to really coax myself in. If you’re like me and you think that planning seems stressful, are afraid it will put you in a creative box, or maybe you’ve even tried it and it just didn’t work, I’m here to tell you it can! start small + simple I don’t plan for farther than a month out a time. At the end of December, about 7 days out from the new month, I planned for all of January. I bought myself a simple planner that is solely for my blog and Instagram. I found that planning out any farther than a month was challenging, especially because new opportunities arise during the month. I have a notes section in my planner where I just “dump” all my ideas and goals for the month. […]

How I clean out my closet and add to my wallet!

Ever since I started my debt-free journey, clothes have been at the absolute bottom of the list for new purchases. Along with that, in 2019 I also tried to be as eco-conscience as I could, which meant saying goodbye to fast fashion. Fast fashion, if you haven’t heard that term before, means “inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends.” It’s not good for the planet, and with its low prices, it can be very easy to fall into the trap of buying more clothes and feeling like you’re not breaking the bank. No clothes for 1 year. I didn’t buy any clothes for all of 2019 unless it was a necessity. I did get some clothes as gifts for my birthday, so I wasn’t in a complete dry spell, but I didn’t spend money on new clothes. With one exception! I had a rule where if I want something new that isn’t a necessity, I have to sell something I already own. This not only helps me keep the clutter to a minimum, but it keeps me on my debt-free journey. I’ve used a few techniques the past year to sell my clothes/items to buy new (new to me!) Facebook Marketplace I have used Facebook marketplace to sell mostly home items, and have tried selling clothes on here. Marketplace is very saturated so to stand out you need to have good photos and something that is more unique. For example, there may be 100 […]

Debt-Free Journey: 1 Year In

When I look back on this year, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. As cheesy and cliche as that may sound, it’s truly been a transformative year..and it all started with my relationship with money. Money, Money, and Less Money. In January of 2019, I was broke. And I mean b-r-o-k-e. I was up to my eyeballs in credit-card debt, student loans, and was the lucky owner of a new home mortgage. Not only that, but my spending habits were less than desirable. I didn’t think that I was bad with money, growing up I had always been responsible; I saved like crazy as a kid, I paid for everything I needed in college, and I bought my own first car. Then real-life adulthood struck me, and things got stressful. I stopped cooking and started eating out for “ease”, buying $4 coffee on the reg, and indulged in late-night Amazon stress shopping. Haven’t we all? When my credit cards started sending me alerts that I was almost maxed out, I had an ugly wake up call. Not only that, but I was borrowing money left and right from people, only to keep myself afloat. I knew I had to take a deep look at how I was spending and living and reevaluate everything. One morning, I sat down and combed through it all…three times in a row. I wrote down every cent I made in a month and made a list of every bill and expense I had, including […]
