Irish Cream Hot Chocolate

I’ll preface by saying, I am not a big drinker. I enjoy a really tasty and well crafted cocktail, and am more interested in the presentation and ingredients than the actual drink! However, Irish Cream hot chocolate has become a staple on those cold winter nights! Brian and I started making this when we wanted a little kick to our hot chocolate while we binged Netflix Christmas movies. It’s so simple, low sugar (optional) and great for a cozy night by the fire! Irish Cream Hot Chocolate Recipe Ingredients (one 8 oz serving) 6 oz milk (we used unsweetened coconut milk) 2 oz Irish Cream (personally I like to use Bailey’s original) 1/2 Tbsp pure vanilla extract 1 Tbsp Stevia (you can use any type of granular sweetener) 1 1/2 Tbsp cocoa powder whipped cream (we just use redi-whip) dash of cinnamon  Instructions Heat milk on stove top or microwave until hot to touch Stir in cocoa powder (it will only dissolve in HOT cocoanut milk) Add Stevia, Irish Cream and vanilla extract Add whipped topping on top and finish with a dash of cinnamon This is hands down my favorite hot drink! Irish Cream has sugar, but when you use other healthy ingredients, this drink is by far a healthier cocktail option. It can also be served cold as a “martini”. You can also sub the whipped topping for marshmallows if you want more of a dessert! This makes the perfect drink for a Christmas party – you can […]

how to prepare your home for guests

With the holiday season quickly approaching, more and more of you will be hosting guests! Personally, I love hosting guests in my home. Being able to share my home, make it cozy and comfortable, and be gracious with my house makes me so happy! We don’t have a dedicated guest room (because we rarely have overnight company) and many people don’t have space for a dedicated guest space, but you can still make their stay comfortable. I put together a list of things to do and prepare for to make your guests feel at home. Especially over the holidays, we want our company to feel at ease! One thing i’ve learned from being the guest in the situation is I hate to have to ask for anything. Asking for the wifi-password (why does that make me feel like a jerk?) where the towels are, if there is coffee, etc..it makes me feel like a nuisance at times. That’s why I am making this list – make your company love every minute at your home (but not too much or they will never leave! haha just kidding!) Whether it’s a whole family staying with you or just one person, these tips are simple and will make their life and yours easier!   Wifi password This may seem like a funny thing – but I know when i’m traveling I want to check in with people or work, and connecting to wifi so I don’t have to use data is very nice. Instead of making […]

combining style

What’s more challenging – moving in with someone or deciding on a decor style for your home? How about doing both? Combining and compromising on style when you move in with a significant other can be quite the task. It can be super rewarding and fun to find a style you love together..but how about when your styles clash? Or you both has strong taste opinions? Don’t let that be something to fight about, and don’t let clashing styles hold you back from creating a beautiful home! There are many ways to combine styles, compromise, and find a happy balance for decorating your home with your partner (and contrary to what HGTV might show you – it doesn’t have to be one sided! My Story Let me start with how Brian and I did it. I, of course, felt like I needed 100% control over the design of our home. I was in fact the one with the design degree, however I quickly learned that that’s not the answer to a harmonious house. He didn’t have a strong opinion on the furniture or decor, as long as it was comfortable and functional, I got the green light. For instance, we went shopping for sofas together and tried them all out! If Brian thought it was “lounge-able” and I liked the style, it was a winner. It’s been that way for everything, and it’s worked great in our home. We also both have our own spaces to do with what we […]

DIY Beaded Chandelier

If you don’t think lighting is important in your home’s decor – think again. Especially in entryways, lighting makes a first impression, and you want it to be good! I have been eyeing up beaded chandeliers for months now, trying to find one that wasn’t going to break the bank – to no avail. That’s when I decided to DIY one (okay this is a partial DIY!) Entryway design My entryway was like the rest of my 1970’s house – bland and beige. Wood trim, brown doors, peachy-brown walls and brown carpet. Makes me itchy just writing that! I have big plans to brighten and lighten the whole space – but at this stage, I am working on the lighting. I love mixing elements – smooth and textured, light and dark, etc. That’s why I LOVE beaded chandeliers. They work with a lot of styles as well – eclectic, coastal, boho, even classic. Since my house is a little bit of everything, I figured this was a style I could live with even when I change out furniture and decor. Inspiration My inspiration was this $299 beaded chandelier from Pottery Barn Kids. I loved the flush mount style – which is perfect for a room with low ceilings where you still want to create a dramatic impact. I also loved the twine and tassel – it makes it a little more casual and bohemian. However, my budget for my entryway is only $400, so spending $300 on the light fixture […]
